Company History
Over the past 25 years, NASA has spent more than $5.5 billion on more than 2,000 science experiments sent to space to a unique environment known “microgravity” (or “micro-g.”) Found in space, this environment has provoked some of the greatest minds in the world to test its effects in a variety of experiments. Most of the experiments sent to micro-g were sent in the SPACEHAB Research Module flown in the space shuttle and owned by our parent company Astrotech Corporation (NASDAQ: ASTC) formerly known as SPACEHAB, Inc. The biotechnology arm of its parent company Astrotech, Astrogenetix, Inc. is developing a unique discovery platform to create new drugs that are manufactured on earth.
Astrogenetix owns a suite of intellectual properties needed to produce biotech products in space. This includes the unique expertise of understanding how to prepare samples to be processed in the micro-g environment; the coordination and management of both the micro-g bioscience and engineering teams; the training of astronauts to perform various micro-g processes; process control while on-orbit; receiving the samples from NASA upon mission completion; and the post processing analysis. Moreover, the Astrogenetix Micro-g Team also performs the unique skill to work within the highly regulated manned space flight environment that requires extensive testing, documentation and approvals from NASA.
